The EiE programme is an initiative by TPAF in consultation with the Ministry of Education (MOE) that is designed to transform the way participating primary and secondary school communities perform through the application of quality principles and practices.

EiE enables students and teachers
to analyse their learning situation and develop improvements so that students and teachers find enjoyment in learning and allows schools to enjoy continued success through continuous improvement of leadership, management and learning processes and to encourage increased improvement in the life of the school, by students, parents and other stakeholders.

Since its inception in 2001 TPAF has witnessed many of the participating schools improving their teaching processes and therefore achieving their desired aims. In essence, schools have to work on a major project called an Opportunity for Improvement (OFI), where a school EiE Committee identified weaknesses in their school systems/processes and devised strategies of overcoming them.

Highlight of School based activities:

Nausori
High School

Nausori
High School
’s(NHS) vigour and commitment to the progamme is so evident when visiting the school.

The Princiapl and staff launched the programme on Monday, 18th May and created a banner especially for this. Orientation for the rest of the staff that were not trained was done through the school’s Professional Development.

NHS is addressing 2 OFIs concurrently as a school based programme. The staff has been split into two committees with each committee headed by an EiE teacher. These two OFIs were identified after a staff meeting.

For the two OFIs identified, the staff drew the current Flow Chart of the procedures followed. Then the committee drew up an improved Flow Chart that is being used to address the OFI.

1. Absenteeism/Attendance
(Chairperson, Mrs. Kumar) : this was identified as the staff felt this was a major OFI of the school. To address this, the staff planned on monitoring attendance, and any child attending school with 0 absence for 1 month would be awarded a certificate.

At the end of the first appraisal ie.
1 month, 117 students from a roll of 381, received a Certificate of Recognition (for nil absence in a month), a worthy achievement.

2. Home Work Centre:
the school has allocated the Biology Lab to be the school’s home work centre for students to go to in order to complete homework.

Form/Subject Teachers note names on a designed generic form. A teacher is then assigned to supervise children. A period has been created for this activity.

It was marvelous to note the enthusiasm and sincerity that Nausori High has in embarking on the programme.

Delainamasi Government School

The EiE team reported on their training during the first Staff Meeting of the Term.

In Week 2 of the Second Term the EiE team then conducted a Diagnostic Test on reading
